Mountains and Lakes

Upon arrival in Kigali, our representative meets you at the airport and transfers you to the hotel. You are briefed and are introduced to the English speaking driver guide.

You take the city tour of Kigali in the morning. Genocide Museum, highlighting the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi, is covered. Depart to Ruhengeri for lunch at the lodge. Afternoon at leisure.

Morning transfer to the Volcanoes National Park. The star attraction of this green space is mountain gorilla, one of the two subtypes of the eastern gorilla. You are briefed on the gorilla trek and then you set out on foot in search of your assigned gorilla group. Observe the fascinating gorillas in their natural habitat behaviour for an hour before a transfer back to your lodge for lunch. Afternoon at leisure.

Morning at leisure. You can opt for a gorilla trip again or take part in a Golden Monkey trek (payable locally). After lunch at the lodge, head to the resort on Lake Kivu for enjoying a pleasant afternoon. This freshwater lake is home to 28 species of animals; some of them are Walking catfish, Nile tilapia and Haplochromis. The beautiful resort towns of Gisenyi, Kibuye and Cyangugu are located along its shores and are connected by a wild roller-coaster road. The most urbanized amongst them is Giyenyi, possessing a tropical charm.
