Combining influences from both Asia and Europe, Turkey is known as 'the bridge between East and West'. It blends different cultures, religions and even old and new, as it houses both ancient temples and modern skyscrapers. Your Turkey holidays can encompass beautiful landscapes, delicious food, friendly locals and fascinating history.
Discover the history
The history of modern day Turkey goes back thousands of years, meaning there are so many interesting historical places of interest to visit. You can wander around the city of Ephesus, which houses well-preserved archaeological sites, such as the Temple of Artemis (one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World). Exploring Cappadocia is another excellent way to spend some of your holidays in Turkey. Known for its underground city and cave homes carved into Cappadochian rock, Cappadocia boasts stunning, unworldly landscapes.
The iconic city of Istanbul is also known for its rich history and is home to landmarks such as the Ayasofya Grand Mosque and Topkapi Palace. Better known as the Blue Mosque due to its deep blue ceiling tiles, the Ayasofya Grand Mosque is a celebration of Ottoman architecture and an absolute must-see when visiting Istanbul. Built in the 15th century, Topkapi Palace was once the linchpin of the Ottoman Empire. Today it is a museum complete with illuminated manuscripts, ancient weapons and sacred relics.
