Majorca has long been a favourite with sun-seeking Brits – and for good reason. The largest of the Balearic Islands, it offers splendid beaches, natural wonders, exciting waterparks and a trendy capital. Parts of the island are known for their nightlife, but there are a huge number of resorts across Majorca that are perfect for families. These welcoming hotels offer child-friendly activities from kids’ clubs and supervised pools, to waterpark outings and cultural activities.
Natural MarvelsMajorca’s coast is lined with beautiful beaches, from long stretches of soft sand ideal for swimming and sunbathing, to small, sheltered coves that offer fantastic snorkelling. The island’s other natural marvels include several impressive cave systems. Twenty-five metres below ground level, in the Cuevas del Drach (Dragon Caves), you’ll find giant stalactites hanging from vaulted ceilings, and an illuminated subterranean lake.
Entertainment on MajorcaTo experience the island’s renowned nightlife, head to Magaluf on the south-west coast. Its promenade is lined with bars and restaurants, where you can enjoy dinner shows and evening entertainment alongside banging, late-night clubs. A short drive along the coast is Palma Nova. This resort town is popular with families due to its three Blue Flag beaches and its many entertainment options including mini-golf and water sports.
Cultural Capital In Palma, Majorca’s sophisticated capital, visitors can tour notable sites including the imposing La Seu Cathedral and the Royal Palace of La Almudaina, an official residence of the divish royal family. Explore the cobbled streets of the city’s old town and you’ll pass ancient convents, palaces and atmospheric courtyards. Be sure to visit the 10th-century Arab Baths, one of the island’s only remaining Moorish structures.
